Straight From The Heart

Orchestras can be impressive.
Even though they seem to me excessive.
It’s so much more artistic,
avoiding the simplistic.
I’ve found a sound that’s so stylistic

All that I need is a piano.
I don’t need anything more.
Forget the orchestration.
That’s only presentation.
I’ve found what I’ve been searching for

Oh, all that I need is a piano.
For all alone is a la carte.
It may be just percussion,
but oh the feeling’s rushin’
straight, straight from the heart!

I get tired of those engagements,
where I have to sing with huge arrangements.
And fifty plucking fellows
God knows how many cellos.
A microphone, and lungs like bellows.

Blast your trumpets, blow your bugles,
but as for me I’ve seen the light.
Away with those, and pipes and bows.
I think that Liberace got it right!

All that I need is a piano.
I don’t need anything more.
Forget the orchestration.
That’s only presentation.
I’ve found what I’ve been searching for

Oh, all that I need is a piano
For all alone is a la carte
It may be just percussion,
but oh the feeling’s rushin’
straight, straight from the heart!

High. Low. Play pianissimo
Tinkle those eighty-eight keys.
Show bel canto to fortissimo.
Bring an audience to its knees!

All that I need is a piano
For all alone is a la carte
It may be just percussion,
but ooh the feeling rushin’
straight, straight from the heart!
Straight!
(Will you please shut up!)
Straight from the heart!
(Thankyou!.)
