My Memories

My memories shine bright and clear.
Each day, each week, each month, each year.
Your love, your laugh, your light, your smile.
I’m grateful to know they were mine for a while.

My memories are what remain.
A broken chord. A lost refrain,
I can’t describe, I can’t control.
Invading my mind and destroying my soul.

I cant forget every moment we shared.
Every touch, every kiss, every glance.
Just like a carousel out of control.
Like a teenager lost in a dance.
But once you’d lied to me
Something inside of me died
And I couldn’t pretend.
You said forever. But I learnt however,
That all the best carousel rides have to end!

My memories go round and round.
Inside my head they pound and pound.
They won’t desist, or let me rest.
They taunt me in ways I could never have guessed.

My memories remain with me.
I close my eyes, but still I see.
They haunt my dreams and tear my heart.
I’m falling and falling and falling apart.

Lying beside you. Together. Alone.
I felt safe while the music played on.
Then came the day I knew something had changed.
You were there, but your feelings had gone.
Games played so easily. Lies told so feasibly.
Time after time they’d be topped.
You begged me to love you, but then when I loved you
We stood on the floor, but the music had stopped

My memories shine bright and clear.
Each day, each week, each month, each year.
Your love, your laugh, your light, your smile.
I’m grateful to know they were mine for a while.
My memories go round and round.
Inside my head they pound and pound.
They haunt my dreams and tear my heart.
I’m falling and falling and falling and falling
And falling and falling and falling and falling!
My memories will always be
The light with which I’ll always see.
You’ll not take one,
I’d rather die.
They’re all that I’ve got to remember you by!
